Services / Collaboration / Expected impact

From a research question
to a practical pilot.

Proposed collaboration areas for researchers, marine engineers and climate-technology partners. Scope and deliverables are defined together for each project.

AquaByss is in early-stage research and prototype development. The areas below describe intended project offerings, subject to technical feasibility and team capacity.
01 / Proposed services

How we can work together.

01 / FEASIBILITY

Ocean-system concept study

Translate a proposed application into design requirements, candidate architectures and key technical uncertainties.

Proposed deliverables: concept brief, design assumptions, initial site criteria and a feasibility work plan.

02 / MODELING

Hydrodynamic modeling

Explore candidate geometry and operating conditions through modeling and sensitivity analysis.

Proposed deliverables: simulation scenarios, comparative results, uncertainty register and recommended prototype tests.

03 / PROTOTYPE

Prototype & pilot development

Co-develop a small-scale assembly and define how its behavior will be evaluated in a bounded experiment.

Proposed deliverables: component plan, assembly approach, test protocol and pilot-readiness review.

04 / OBSERVATION

Monitoring design

Identify baseline data, measurement requirements and comparison methods appropriate to the proposed site and mechanism.

Proposed deliverables: monitoring framework, data requirements and analysis plan.

05 / CLIMATE

Carbon-pathway assessment

Structure the research needed to assess additionality, durability and lifecycle emissions with specialist partners.

Proposed deliverables: pathway hypothesis, evidence gaps and a validation roadmap.

06 / PARTNERSHIP

Joint research projects

Shape collaborative experiments and research proposals around a clearly defined engineering or climate question.

Proposed deliverables: agreed scope, roles, work packages and milestone-based reporting.

02 / Expected effects

Potential benefits. Defined evidence.

These are intended benefits to investigate, not demonstrated performance claims.

Potential benefitWhy it mattersHow we would evaluate it
Lower external energy demandUsing ambient currents may reduce the energy required for the intended mechanical function.Measure useful system response and external energy consumption against a defined baseline.
Better engineering decisionsModels and early prototypes can expose design weaknesses before larger trials.Compare predicted and measured behavior, failure modes and design changes.
A possible durable carbon pathwayA validated pathway could contribute to long-term climate mitigation.Establish net atmospheric removal, storage duration, uncertainty and lifecycle emissions.
More accountable field trialsBaseline measurements and defined operating limits can support informed pilot decisions.Compare environmental observations before, during and after tests, with reference conditions where feasible.
Evidence for future scale-upRepeatable results can clarify whether larger systems are technically and economically justified.Track reliability, material use, deployment effort, maintenance and recovery costs.
03 / Engagement process

Start with a clear question.

01 — Share the objectiveDescribe the application, available data, location and intended decision.
02 — Agree on scopeDefine technical tasks, partner roles, deliverables, budget and evidence requirements.
03 — Develop & reviewReview modeling and prototype results at agreed milestones before proceeding to the next stage.
04 — Decide the next experimentUse the findings to refine, expand or stop the proposed approach.
